Public displays of relations

Hey world , what a wild ride this week has been, I originally wanted to get this baby out a couple days ago but life loves to get in the way so here is this weeks topic.

.. Public relations .. Is it just me or are there an overwhelming number of public relations failures ? Are we as consumers too forgiving ? or is it that many companies are asleep at the switch ?

Let's look at Sony , it took them a week after They got hacked to say "sorry we screwed up". It's like they think its okay consumer information has already been in the hands of hackers for a week without you knowing. It's akin to being four and lying to your mom about who pushed your brother in the sand.
"I INSIST he tripped"
How about some crucial questions such as did they address the issue ? Has their security been stepped up? Well it looks like a no, considering they've been hacked a second and a third time. (Of course since I'm no it expert it may be tougher then I think if it is please enlighten me)

Make no mistake there are countless other examples of companies asleep at the switch, Ketchum (Who's CEO insulted the city he was speaking in via Twitter) . There is also a guy from the ad firm representing Chrysler tweeting (on the corporate account) about bad Detroit drivers yes it was a mistake (he meant to tweet from his personal account) but with your work on the line and the possibility of doing so much more damage why risk it?.

These examples are all new examples , Digital examples if you will. Do I have to touch on the Toyota Crisis? or the Firestone recall?

So heres some questions for these companies:

1 Do you have an ad agency (y) (n)
2 Do you or your agency have a pr department ? (y) (n)
3 Do you regularly pay ether entity ? (y) (n)
4 Do you tell them you made a boo boo ? (y) (n) And if you do , do they act on it ? (y) (n)

If not, please justify their paycheck below in a paragraph or less.

Now heres some equally condescending advice: Make the job of your pr department easier by participating and admitting when you messed up . Make sure they act quickly , or you wont look any better.

Now back to Sony and their security problem ...

Why is company they hired to do their internet security (F-secure) Still employed ? is F-Secure the best ? or even effective/good ( I hope the answer is no to at least question #1 or honestly the hackers will always win.) Honestly Sony has many options in which they can DO SOMETHING but it seems they refuse at the moment

I'm going to email them and ask whats up.

see y'all :D

State of the Internet in Canada address

Hey, Y'all . I know its been awhile (quite awhile actually)

But hey life is busy life is tough , life can be meaner then a strict parent (not that I'd know anything about that) . Life is why I've been AWAY from keyboard for a few months. But I like to write and I write for my reasons and so here I am.

I guess ill start with politics ( I know , Discussing politics is always a great discussion point for peaceful agreement between normally sane people) So lets say conservatives are friends.

These "friends" *COUGH* seem to have well .. interesting views on the internet (i.e end anonymity on the internet , make the internet costs a similar level to MOBILE INTERNET WHICH IS TERRIBLE ) the worst part is the CRTC does not seem to be on the side of a more open internet ... We should change that.

Not knowing which seat to take will have never cost Canada so much.

Now assuming you disagree you'll argue that I'm using hyperbole

With that in mind .. what other country takes away citizens anonymity ? I'll give you a hint it's large, Asian and has a communist government.

Anyway those are my internet based opinions.

on to the real purpose of this blog (I am Job huntin Jason)

I've been only casually searching for work right now and I could probably do more but *SPOILER ALERT* life gets in the way. So for now I'm hanging out and taking care of my house. My friends no doubt know I have my reasons and I will leave it at that.

Soon enough I'll be writing on the state of advertising (or maybe ill make a state of the union style video) I feel like its a theme.

its been awhile and some miles , If I had a bet I'd say Cossette

Alright so I have not posted in awhile but its time for me to get back into the game .
I had a group interview at Cossette a couple weeks ago (January the 13th) and learned quite a couple things I would like to pass on.

1) It's AS GOOD or BETTER to have the right questions then it is to have the right answers. Asking the right questions shows you are curious (and Possibly Intelligent) since with the right question you can demonstrate what you already know as well as a willingness to learn.

2) Stick out , That is if you can . its like a race, the company/agency wants to see who runs fastest. Alot of times this can be achieved by #1

3) ALWAYS Bring pen and paper , I regret not doing this.

4) Do your research . Weather you graduated and went into something else and are coming back to what you studied for , or whatever your plan is . You have to keep up YOU have to keep relevant.

5) Alot of the big agencies will always ask you what your favorite campaign is . do your research and come up with as much facts as you can when it comes to 1) WHY (was it interactive , engaging ? amusing? memorable?) what were the RESULTS (measurable ones) the try to find one that scored big for the client and entertained the consumer (as well as yourself)

Alright with that said ,

I'm interviewing for two positions and I'm EXCITED

Not only that but a project I've been working on is about ready to get pitched to classmates /friends and interested parties more on that later when i'm really ready to share but its film based and is about very eccentric characters . We will see what happens but I like to keep busy what can I say ?.

Movin and groovin

So this is the first time I failed to follow a proper schedule. I hope you, the reader are cool with that and don't drop completely off the radar but anyway a couple weeks ago I moved back to my hometown for a little while (I claim temporary insanity) .

Anyway I'm going to be back on the job search like a bloodhound pretty soon. I'm much closer to moving to the land of snow and igloos, though I'm throwing a couple applications here since moving there is subject to a couple factors before I’m comfortable with moving there.

So anyway onto the social media question, I've been following Dexter and in the show there is often swearing (no way around it) the character Debra Morgan has one of the most foul mouths on television so why when the goal of their social media is to get people to watch the show do they care so much about the swearing?

MY only guess is that it’s unprofessional but it’s still odd because I'm sure the best way to gain interest is to have writing that reflects the atmosphere of the show.

Anyway that’s my $00.2

I'll be posting back on the regular schedule in the new year !

Cold&Bold

Hello all, as you know I've been looking for a job with some ferocity in the past few weeks
Well anyway this last week and a bit has been all about interviews , good news is I think I've struck something (fingers crossed , don't want to jinx it though technically I don't believe in those things) With that said , my latest opportunities are all pretty awesome , there's the social media internship though it pays poorly it pays and its something I love.

Canada: The buildings are hidden under the snow.

In other news , I'm somewhat broke but not quite at the gnawing- at- tree- branches broke stage yet . When I get to that point loyal reader , you will be the first to know I will have stopped writing in English and started babbling about the end of all things. James Lefebvre suggested I start a jam fund on my blog , If I don't get a job soon that is what i feel I shall do . though it may make me a charity case , straw berry jam is worth every moment of it.

ANYWAY .

The situation between crazy roommate and landlady has come to a standstill , it is quiet too quiet to be honest , and I'm pretty sure it's going to become a spy versus spy situation up in this house poisonings and all that madness .

Some things I've discovered in the past few weeks

My roommate sleepwalks - I had clean dishes in the fridge to prove it -Also he is a loud sleep walker.

That if I play videogames for more then two hours I have strange dreams. Last night I was a wizard . it was brilliant , not the harry potter kind though more like a traditional one.

Max the what ?

So I've been scurrying to find a new place in the last couple weeks but well, it hasn't been easy.

There have been 3 major locations that I've been Interested in and needless to say

- Living with one of my friends here - North York - Problem ? the landlord might want it for storage

-Nice people on Bloor - A bit more expensive though but only by a little bit.

- Cool apartment on Queen above a cafe - On queen - excellent location , though the room was small , guess it had been taken since the posters didn't respond to me. mostly mentioning this to give you the image of a version of me lives above a cafe: paints , Speaks French , drinks fine wine and dresses like a mime. though who am I kidding ? I can barley finger paint :) i guess this is the french half of me that's coming out.

- I could move back to Windsor then out of the city in the new year. Just a thought . I dont know yet.

Anyway onto the continuation of the drama between my roommate and landlady . Apparently there is going to be a hearing on the 25th , I cannot make this insanity up. My jaw has officially hit the floor , I mean seriously ? court ? If I would have known this was going to happen well , I would have cleared off before the guns started firing so to speak.

Now that that's all out of the way , I'm going to have to sadly inform you my medicine testing career is dead in the water . It's too bad , maybe I'm just not qualified enough meh, it happens.

But thankfully I'm still qualified for " max the mutt animation school"
Disclaimer : instead of a diploma they may just laugh at you when graduating.

Smores and Wars .

It's been another interesting week for me and thanks to the violation of a fire code of some sort I have to move out by the end of the month.

As usual I'm going to make this blog about me , but obviously it’s also about all the people that have fought for my ability to write and live anyway I choose . So thank you veterans for helping me continue to enjoy these things.

So anyway onto how things got the way they are. I think it's pretty obvious I don't get along with one of my roommates (Specifically the one I insinuated might be a murderer) and I know it's my landlady’s fault for not following all the codes (makes sense) but having to move again really really is not my cup of tea. I did not exactly sign off on being a nomad moving from place to place, I can’t wait to get a job again and gain a little stability.

Enough of me being sombre . I'm still looking for work and I’m starting to branch out into EVERYTHING , because I might as well have fun while trying to get my career in order. Obviously I need it because my life has been a little insane lately and I might as well amass amusing experiences to write about so I can get better at them.

I am qualified for ALL OF THEM.

MUHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA

Anyway, I have had two employment related interviews in the last week so I seriously hope I hear from their place soon. Ether of these opportunities would help prepare me for the future (yes that includes Best Buy). I think I’ll just go with the flow for now as all I really want is a job that would make me happy. That will take some time.

However, considering my career path still feels like it’s on a very advertising trajectory I'd love to end up at OMD. OMD has an excellent reputation as a media agency and I think I’d make quite the planner ( as a media planning assistant I would not be calling all the shots and I would be doing quite a bit of learning but does any recent grad call the shots ? no ).

If my blogs recently tell you I’m unsure as to what I want to be it’s because I am. I have so many things floating around in my head I just need to get out and they are for the most part creative endeavours, it’s weird that I never desired to be in creative but I think that’s where I fit. Tragic really , Since I Don't have a portfolio and just want a respectable office job .Oh well, if it takes getting out of school and a little bit of living to fully realize where I want to be so be it. Other things im passionate about are digital and social media marketing but heck thats going to take some time to mature and really become a respected category of course most of the agencies know this by now and just consider it a cog in a cohesive machine instead of pointing to some guy and saying "he handles digital" which does not amount to much of a strategy at all.
